Born in Liverpool. Formative years of education included Alsops High School and Liverpool College of Art. My main joy in life has been painting. I was fortunate to enjoy formal training at the Liverpool College of Art. This gave me a firm foundation of basic skills, which has stood me in good stead throughout my life.
My career in the Army was both physically and mentally demanding and for the first 15 years I had to devote my energies to gaining the skills of my chosen profession and my painting was reduced to the occasional sketch. In the early 70s I had reached a position where I was able to delegate and found time to devote to my main passion in life, painting. I chose watercolour because it was not messy, easy to carry and one could make a simple statement in a very short time. It followed that when I started to paint regularly again that I continued with this delightful medium. I was stationed in Berlin at the time and still have a small painting I did in a little village of Wittenhau. It brings back very fond memories. From then on I painted regularly and was soon holding exhibitions in Army establishments. This continued until the end of my Army career in September 1987. Retirement to 24 Princess Street took some adjustment. I was qualified as a State Registered Chartered Physiotherapist and I had spent a life time in physical training, sport, recreation and rehabilitation so I set up my own private practice and this has been running ever since. I have been able to successfully balance my physiotherapy with my leisure pursuits of painting, sailing and golf. By Don Glynn |
